Appalachian Trail Conservancy Visitor Center to Host Ice Cream Social
This is announcing that the Appalachian Trail Conservancy will be hosting an ice cream social open to the public.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2011 - On August 14th, 2011 at 2 p.m., the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's (ATC) Visitor Center, located in Harpers Ferry, WV, will host an ice cream social open to the public, to celebrate the 74th anniversary of Appalachian Trail's completion 74 years ago. Visitors and hikers will have a chance to visit the ATC headquarters while cooling off with some free vanilla ice cream, generously donated by Skippers Downtown Dips of Charles Town, West Virginia.
"The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is excited to offer this event to visitors and hikers, giving them a break from the hot weather and a chance to interact with other Appalachian Trail enthusiasts," stated Laurie Potteiger, Information Services Manager at the ATC.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in the "half-pint challenge," a modified version of the "half-gallon challenge." The half-gallon challenge is a tradition in which hikers attempting to hike the entire 2,180 miles of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) eat a half-gallon of ice cream upon reaching the mid-way point.
Those who successfully complete the "half-pint challenge" will be given a temporary A.T. tattoo. Ice cream will be available as long as supplies last, so come promptly at 2:00!
