  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) September 01, 2013 - The Apex Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted on Wednesday to endorse the upcoming 2013 Wake County School Bond. The proposed building initiative is a $939.9 million plan funded partially through the $810 million October 8 bond referendum and partially from existing funds from a recent bond sale and other county revenue.

"A great education system is the foundation of our community, thus as business leaders we support the school bond in order to maintain the excellence of our schools," Dave Cozzarelli, Apex Chamber Chairman said Wednesday.

Wake County is identified as one of the fastest growing regions in the country, with demand for space in its public schools being a persistent issue. The bond addresses the need for both renovations to existing schools, and additional space for the growing population of students. The plan will result in 11 new elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools to serve a student growth of as many as 32,000 by the 2020 school year. In addition, extensive renovations will take place at six existing schools, and most of the remaining schools would benefit from upgrades.

Nicole Loeffler, Apex Chamber Vice-Chair said, "Our business community values the strength of the schools in and around Apex. The Chamber supports the bond because it will continue to ensure that our children have the resources they need for a successful future."
