A Panel Discussion by EquityMatch on Nurturing Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace.
- (1888PressRelease) December 13, 2023 - Mental Health is not a Luxury, instead, it’s a cornerstone of resilience and vitality. While reminding everyone on this aspect, EquityMatch organized a panel discussion on October 25, 2023, under the theme of "Nurturing Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace." The session served as a place for illuminating ideas, the exchange of best practices, and a commitment to creating more encouraging and psychologically resilient work environments.
This panel discussion was moderated by none other than Massimiliano (Max) Sulpizi, the Founder of EquityMatch. He is a remarkable visionary in the entrepreneurial sphere and the General Partner of HSMI-Corporate Consulting.
Dr. Johnsey Thomas, Jennifer K. Hill, and Dr. Mark Goulston served as distinguished panelists during the event. Dr. Johnsey has been working in the field of psychological well-being and wellness for over two years. He is a motivational speaker, psychologist, and health coach. Jennifer is a well-known entrepreneur, novelist, and TV and radio broadcaster. She is also a well-known business leader, having published two prominent books and two white papers in addition to serving as CEO and Founder of JHill's Staffing and OptiMatch. Dr. Mark has been a former UCLA psychiatric professor for over 25 years. He is also a Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches member. These three speakers engaged with the audience to produce a vibrant environment bursting with great concepts and strategies to empower mental health at work.
The discussion began with a focus on the primary causes of mental health challenges in the workplace. Jennifer pointed out, “The latest science is showing us that, things like epigenetics what we thought 100 years ago, that our genes controlled us. But now we understand through epigenetics and other recent scientific breakthroughs that it is actually our environment that directly correlates to our genes turning on and off.
With this statement, she was able to explain how the early scientific belief that Epigenetics exclusively applied to humans has now been disproven and the environment is a major concern. As a result, she was able to underline how a lack of a mindful work environment and comprehensive Employee Wellness Programs contributes to a wide range of problems.
The session also emphasized the significance of stigma, leadership, and acceptance as variables in these workplace challenges. This emphasis showed that each person is uniquely designed, necessitating customized strategies that are now lacking in the workplace. This absence causes various mental health and well-being challenges.
The discussion then moved on to tools and strategies for addressing mental health challenges in the workplace. According to Dr. Mark, “One of the things that all mental conditions like Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Neurodiversity, and Schizophrenia cause is to trigger easily. It takes very little to trigger you.” As a result, he was able to point out the utilization of the 22-Day Trigger Challenge as an approach to overcoming mental health difficulties at work.
Dr. Mark explained how it allows you to become a better version of yourself after 22 days of regulating the triggers. As a result, he beautifully articulated the transforming approach in three key steps: triggered, downshift, and reframe.
Additionally, several approaches, such as paradoxical thinking and meditation, were discussed as useful tools for both preventing and overcoming mental difficulties in the workplace. Jennifer was able to demonstrate how Paradoxical Thinking might assist in positively reconsidering a situation. On the other hand, Dr. Johnsey pointed “Whatever we do or whatever we say at the end of the day we find it difficult to sit for a while without thinking anything.” Thus, he was able to underline how meditation may be done at the workplace by attempting to focus on the background environment, nice noises, and so on.
The discussion then focused on employer measurements that are effective in the workplace, emphasizing three essential strategies: fostering open communication, developing leadership knowledge, and adhering to virtuous beliefs. The panelists were able to emphasize the fact that the principles of top-tier companies typically encourage individuals. As a result, the critical need for building and transmitting values that support a productive and healthy work environment is essential.
The topic of Collaborative Care was touched on as the final part of the session. The discussion emphasized initiatives such as providing access to therapists, including acupuncture services, and providing complete mental and emotional support can be used as critical strategies for fostering a collaborative care culture in the workplace.
As the session came to a close, attendees were empowered with ideas and strategies for dealing with mental health issues at work.
