We would like to invite you back to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, FL for a curriculum of unique courses led by expert instructors that focus on Strengthening Tribal Communities into the Future.
- (1888PressRelease) March 28, 2013 - The Native Learning Center (NLC), a Seminole Tribe of Florida program dedicated to the development of cultural and quality of life skills for all Native and Indigenous people, announces that the 5th Annual Summer Conference Agenda is now live; register now! The 5th Annual Summer Conference will be hosted at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, FL on June 4-6, 2013.
The NLC has packed the agenda with sessions led by expert instructors focusing on Strengthening Tribal Communities into the Future. Each session touches on key components to strengthen the goals and projects your Tribal community has set out to accomplish. The agenda includes topics that touch on: new trends in Tribal government; emerging developments between Tribes and States; culture, language, and historic preservation; safety and protection for your communities; and much more.
"By providing our Tribal members the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of subject matter experts, we hope to ignite Indian Country's excitement about strengthening our Tribal communities," said Georgette Palmer Smith (Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma/Choctaw Nation), Executive Director for the Native Learning Center. "We've come so far since our first conference 5 years ago, and I am thrilled that our 5th annual conference will convene many Tribal members from all over Indian Country who will find the ideas, inspiration, and tools to help them accelerate their impact in their communities."

"Sustainable Gardens: Remembering and Honoring Our Traditions" -Tuesday, June 4, 10:30am - 12:00pm.
Instructors - Mark Ford (Chiricahua Apache), Independent Consultant and Rose Fraser (Oglala Lakota Sioux), Independent Consultant will focus on promoting individual and community gardens as a way of honoring the connectedness that our ancestors had to the Earth. This presentation will include success stories on reservation communities where gardens have had an impact with health, nutrition, fighting obesity, and bringing families and communities closer together.
"Strengthening Native Families Through the Use of Traditional Concepts of the Medicine Wheel and Moccasin, Parts 1 & 2" - Tuesday, June 4, 10:30am - 5:00pm and Wednesday, June 5, 8:30am - 3:00pm
Instructors - Catherine Figueroa Park (Comanche), Independent Consultant and Ashleigh Erickson (Comanche/Caddo), Independent Consultant will explore specific topics as they relate to Native traditional concepts of the Medicine Wheel and the Moccasin. Participants will learn about the Medicine Wheel A Model of Balance, Goal Setting, Self-Esteem, and Communication. The session includes information, interactive activities, background information, and recommended resources.
"Revitalizing Work and Tribal Culture Through Team Awareness" - Wednesday, June 5, 8:30am - 12:00pm
Instructors - Denise Harvey (Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde), and Joel Bennett, Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems will discuss the significant relationship between our connection with traditional tribal values/cultural heritage and the overall health and well-being of tribal organizations. This workshop is for any employer/employee seeking effective tools for health promotion inside a tribal organization. Participants will acquire tools to revitalize culture and improve the overall health and productivity of workplace/tribal government.

The Native Learning Center (NLC) is an educational resource that offers Native and Indigenous people the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that improve quality of life through housing related educational programs. The NLC hosts conferences and individual courses that bring Native and Indigenous people together to discuss vital topics that promote cultural development within Indian Country. In cooperation with the Housing and Urban Development Office, Eastern Woodlands Office of Native American Programs (EWONAP), and various Native American trainers throughout Indian Country, the NLC developed areas of concentration to complement current national organizations that support EWONAP's mission to promote development of native housing and housing related activities.
