  • (1888PressRelease) November 14, 2013 - Starting at 9 a.m. on December 7, 2013, and running for twenty-four continuous hours until 8:59 a.m. on December 8, 2013, Jay Sand, founder and lead teacher of All Around This World, an interactive global music program for small children and their families, will offer a "marathon" series of 24 straight multicultural music classes for parents and children, web-streamed live and free for anyone anywhere with access to the internet, marking the curriculum's worldwide debut.

During the twenty-four distinct classes, each of which will start at the top of an hour and run for approximately 45 minutes, Sand will introduce children and their families to music and elements of culture from a region of the world that All Around This World covers in its global curriculum. All Around This World's material consists of nearly 300 songs, originating from more than 100 countries and first appearing in more than 100 distinct languages, all of which Sand has adapted thoughtfully to engage young children (infants to 8 year olds) and their families in open-minded exploration of the world's many countries and cultures. The only music Sand will repeat in the 24 hours will be "We Are Happy," a Ugandan song he uses to mark the beginning and end of each class.

"People find so many ways to hide from one another," says Sand, who traveled the globe with his guitar for years before translating his love of music and multicultural exploration into experiential classes for kids, "but when we're singing we instinctively connect. Music opens us, frees us and gives us both the excuse and the practical tools to share our selves with someone else." He continues, "I know I think big, and I'm honestly not sure how I'll push ahead as the clock ticks toward one, two, three o'clock in the morning of December 8th, but the truly 'big thought' here isn't the attempt to teach 24 classes straight, but the idea that such an ambitious and instinctively positive global music program exists." This fall All Around This World has been able to start making its curriculum available everywhere through a revised website, an initial set of family-friendly world-music CDs and a series of illustrated 'musical maps' that introduce kids to musical genres and instruments everywhere. "I can't think of a better way to celebrate the debut of this material," says Sand,"than with a global educational event that anyone, anywhere, with access to the internet can attend."

Sand's support team for the event, members of which will help him communicate as he's teaching with class "attendees" worldwide via social media, will include educators who have adopted the All Around This World curriculum for use in their classrooms around the United States and parents of children who have enjoyed the classes he has offered in Philadelphia since 2009.

The 24 classes on December 7th and 8th will take place physically at Sand's classroom-studio in Philadelphia and will be open for live attendance, but will also be globally accessible by live web-stream via http://www.LiveStream.com. The hour by hour schedule is available on the All Around This World website at http://www.AllAroundThisWorld.com/JayWillBeTiredButWillKeepSinging.

    About All Around This World
All Around This World is a unique, interactive music program for children 0-8 years old that encourages kids and their families to explore the world by enjoying great global melodies, rhythms and movement. In All Around This World classes, kids and their parents/caregivers/educators sing, dance and explore many countries and cultures, "traveling" around the globe region by region, exploring a new part of the world each three months, joining in the fun for any part of All Around This World's three year around the world tour.

Jay Sand, guitarist and children's music teacher, father of three girls (4-9 years old) and world traveler, developed the All Around This World curriculum as a way to introduce his children to the countries he's already visited and the many more he plans to visit with them. Jay held his first All Around This World classes in 2009 in his West Philadelphia living room. Since then, Sand has begun to make the AATW curriculum available to teachers in multiple cities around the U.S. and is currently conducting a crowdfunding campaign (http://www.AllAroundThisWorld.com/crowdfunding) to support his vision to make the curriculum available in communities and school classrooms worldwie. The All Around This World's website, http://www.AllAroundThisWorld.com, now features information about the more than 100 countries the All Around This World classes "visit" and the nearly 300 global songs the curriculum presents.

Jay Sand, founder and lead teacher of All Around This World, has always had the travel bug, and when he travels he always takes his guitar. Since the early 1990s Sand and his guitar have spent months on end backpacking around Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America. Now that Jay has three little children of his own, taking off for a few months at a time is less of an option, so he and his guitar mainly stay around Philadelphia. Sand started teaching music to young children in 2006 after attending parent/child music classes with his first daughter and discovering the power of music to enhance the lives of even the youngest children. He initiated the All Around This World classes in 2009 as a way to introduce young children and their families to countries and cultures worldwide, and has since honed the curriculum to a truly unique musical, and multicultural educational adventure.
