(1888PressRelease) July 30, 2008 - Created by model turned designer, Melissa Pearcy, it was her love of animals and involvement with various pet rescue organizations that inspired her to start the company, designing the majority of the products herself.

Pearcy created Not So Shabby Pets after stray cats started hanging out in her front yard. She wanted to offer them some type of comfortable housing that would keep them warm and safe. There were many cat and dog houses on the market, but Pearcy wanted something good for the kitties that looked good in her garden; something beautiful and functional.

After much research, Pearcy found the perfect handcrafted cat/dog houses. She painted them white and placed them in her yard. The cats took to them immediately. Neighbors and passers by would ask where to get the houses, one thing led to another and Not So Shabby Pets was born.

“I hope that one day my products will be in the homes of pet lovers all over the world. I donate part of my proceeds to The Humane Society of The United States, as well as my own personal contributions. I hope to be able to keep other cats safe and out of the elements with my cathouses. I know that my feral kitties love them, and ever since I put them in the yard, they don’t leave, which helps me sleep at night knowing the coyotes can’t get to them.”

Not So Shabby Pets beds and feeders are individually handcrafted from solid wood in the U.S.A. Each one is hand painted, slightly distressed, and adorned with beautiful floral appliqués. There is no assembly required.

“I personally handcraft and hand paint each one individually allowing for me to be able to customize any aspect of the design for a customer. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I always make certain each of my products are ‘just right’. My beds are not only beautiful, but are unique.. No two are exactly alike. Not to mention, cats and dogs LOVE them! In fact, one of my cat’s takes over every bed I bring in the house.. He has four of his own beds!”
