September 2010, Los Angeles CA: The Red Swan Theatre Company, in association with Reel Alchemy Productions, unveils a fresh take on historical enchantress, Anais Nin.
Secrets, seductions and betrayal is the stuff of great literature, but even more - the stuff of great theatre when personified by a sophisticated siren who lived the sacred and profane in real time. Not a Greek tragedy, nor an existential parable, ANAIS: An Erotic Evening with Anais Nin is far juicier than classic fiction. Uniquely written as an offering to the audience - providing a rare glimpse into a public figure's private thoughts and feelings, ANAIS promises to be far more than another notch in the playbill post.
Anais Nin was a diarist, her notes - since the age of 11 - proved exhaustive and complete. But one weekend in the early 1950's, while living in Los Angeles, Anais mysteriously traveled to Arizona. No notes, not rational, no explanation - to this day, not even her closest friends ever knew why she went there. So marks the setting of ANAIS. The audience is made privy to that "missing weekend" and therein introduced anew to Anais Nin, the legend - in her most vulnerable moments.
A one woman show, Sonia Maslovskaya expertly originates the role of Anais. Said of her theatrical talents, "She (Maslovskaya) gives a performance that's so extraordinarily honest and emotionally real…it's a tour de force performance which will take your breath away." "ANAIS" is the latest play from London, NY and now Los Angeles based dramatist Michael Phillips, whose work has been seen by well over 16 million audience members internationally.
ANAIS: An Erotic evening with Anais Nin will host it's Gala opening on September 10th. Special guests and giveaways will mark the occasion, as well as a very special performance from the American Ballet of Los Angeles.
