Anaheim White House Celebrates 29th Annual Tree Lighting
Anaheim White House Celebrates 29th Annual Tree Lighting on Snow-Filled Grounds with Massive Tree, Formal Dinner, Cast of Holiday Characters & Toy Drive for Motel Kids.
- (1888PressRelease) November 16, 2016 - You can count on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman too. And, of course, it wouldn't be a holiday party without an appearance by Santa Claus. This cast of characters will be among the VIPs who will be attending the Anaheim White House's 29th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Dinner on Sunday, November 20. The festivities start at 6 p.m. when guests will be greeted with Champagne and tray-passed hors d'oeuvres as they roam around the restaurant's festively decorated, snow-filled grounds. The tree lighting will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a 4-course sit-down dinner. Cost is $135 per person and tables for 10 are also available. Reservations must be made no later than Saturday, November 12 by calling (714) 772-1381.
Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy that will be donated to the underprivileged served by Caterina's Club, the internationally recognized nonprofit that feeds and houses local "motel kids," thus named because their poor, working class parents are relegated to cheap, crime-ridden motels. In keeping with tradition, 8 honorees will be recognized by Caterina's Club for their exceptional support: Sally Feldhaus, Susan Klaren-Hatzenbuler, Cathy Dutton, Becky Areias, Andrea Manes, Pennie Contos, Pat Pina and Reon Boydstun-Howard.
Caterina's Club was started in 2005 after a visit by Anaheim White House owner Sir Bruno Serato and his mother, Caterina, to a local Boys & Girls Club. There, she saw a 7-year-old boy eating a bag of potato chips and when she learned that the snack was all he had for dinner, she instructed her son to head back to the restaurant and feed the children pasta. He has fed them each evening since.
When the program was at risk of extinction during the collapse of the economy, Serato mortgaged his home to keep it going. But the issue of hunger in OC -- the backyard of great wealth --still exists in many Southern California cities. In addition to feeding the hungry, Serato helps "motel families" find permanent housing. And earlier this year, he teamed up with the City of Anaheim to introduce the Hospitality Academy to help at-risk high school students learn about the restaurant and service industries with hopes of landing jobs after graduation.
Serato has earned an international reputation for his humanitarian work. In addition to being a CNN Hero and knighted by the Italian government, he has graced the pages of People Magazine several times, appeared on countless national television programs including "CBS Evening News" and has been profiled in newspapers and magazines the world over. He received a humanitarian award on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, a papal blessing from Pope Francis and received numerous proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition -- all of which he has accepted to generate public awareness of hunger in our communities.
