An Insider's Look Available at the Scientology Information Center
The story behind the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health can be found at downtown Clearwater's Scientology Information Center.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) May 20, 2021 - Having recently celebrated the 71st anniversary of the publication of Dianetics, the Scientology Information Center invites guests to learn more about the development of Dianetics and its eventual evolution into Scientology. The Center, located at 500 Cleveland Street is open daily from 10am – 1pm and 2 – 7pm, except Saturdays, where the Center is open from 2pm until 7pm.
“The word Dianetics comes from Greek and means ‘through the mind’,” said Amber Skjelset, the Manager of the Information Center. “Dianetics looks at how the spirit effects the body through the mind and why and also provides a simple, workable means to resolve those unreasonable reactions and fears that people carry around with them.”
Multi-media displays include interviews with those who were involved in the early days of Dianetics, as well as excerpts from recorded lectures by L. Ron Hubbard, wherein he discusses his research and discoveries of Dianetics.
“When Mr. Hubbard published an article on his research in an early 1950 issue of the Explorers’ Club Journal, that launched a wave of letter from readers, asking for more,” said Ms. Skjelset. “He then decided to write a book, outlining all of his discoveries so that the techniques of Dianetics would be available to everyone.”
When news of Mr. Hubbard’s work emerged, national columnist Walter Winchell wrote: “There is something new coming up in April called Dianetics. A new science which works with the invariability of physical science in the field of the human mind. From all indications it will prove to be as revolutionary for humanity as the first caveman’s discovery and utilization of fire.”
Dianetics was originally published in Manhattan on May 9, 1950 and has gone on to sell more than twenty million copies internationally. Published in 21 languages, Dianetics is one of the best-selling books on the subject of the human mind.
"Visitors are always welcome at the Scientology Information Center," said Skjelset. “In addition to information on Dianetics, we have educational videos and displays on Scientology, its Founder L. Ron Hubbard, virtual tours of Churches around the world and information about the humanitarian programs sponsored by Scientology and Scientologists all over the world."
