An Artful Energy For The Owners Of A Residence Club In Asheville, North Carolina
Jonas Gerard, fine artist, teams up with the Asheville Club at 151 to offer original artwork for luxury private residence club owners.
- Asheville, NC (1888PressRelease) December 18, 2010 - Perched high above the "Paris of the South" Asheville, North Carolina is a new art gallery of sorts. The Asheville Club at 151, a private residence club in downtown Asheville has recently commissioned Jonas Gerard, a renowned, abstract artist in the Southeast and now an Asheville resident, to deck the walls of this exclusive residence club with 20 of his original works of art.
Although the residences offer amazing views of the city and the Blue Ridge Mountains through stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, Asheville Club manager Mark Peterson, knew it needed a bit more color.
"I was at a gallery walk in the River Arts District and came upon Jonas's gallery, packed with over a hundred people and a great Cuban jazz band playing in the middle of the gallery," said Peterson. "Once I saw his work and felt all the energy and noticed the smiles as we walked around, I knew I had to find a way to get that feeling into our residence club."
Jonas established his unique connection with the Asheville Club at 151 in 2009 when he agreed to display his work in the lobby of Hotel Indigo-Ashville Downtown below the Club residences. The private residence club's six luxuriously appointed residences have now been transformed and graced with color and energy, courtesy of some of Jonas's finest originals. The Asheville Club is now the only private residence club on the East Coast to have original fine art in its residences.
"I had an emotional connection there," said Jonas Gerard. As he explains it, the emotional response is what Jonas thrives on and strives for. Gerard is not interested in intellectualizing art. It's all about the heart.
"I enjoy connecting with people," says the artist. "My life is about joie de vivre."
Born of Brazilian and French parents, he came to the U.S. via New York when he was 13 and arrived in Asheville just over three years ago after spending the last few decades in South Florida. His career up until now includes such highlights as a Presidential Honor in 1975 for his bicentennial painting We the People, and inclusion in collections from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. to Miami Beach's Bass Museum of Art.
"It would be hard, maybe even impossible, to find anyone who is more passionate and energetic about his work," adds Dennis Goodwin, one of the developers of Hotel Indigo-Asheville Downtown. "His enthusiasm for his artwork is infectious. We already have owners of our Club visiting his gallery because his work is hanging in our Club residences. This connection has a distinctly Asheville presence to these luxury residences."
In his 50 years as an artist, Jonas Gerard's life has been as colorful and passionate as the abstract paintings that explode spontaneously onto his canvases. From the first step into the large gallery, one's senses are happily assaulted with a riot of color, texture, and movement on canvas, the result of Gerard's wildly spontaneous technique and his use of the finest acrylic paints. Now that passion is enjoyed and shared by all the owners and their guests at The Asheville Club at 151.
