Beth Tzedec Congregation and the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre are teaming up for the Third Annual Robbie Burnstein Dinner and Fundraiser which will be held at Beth Tzedec Synagogue on Thursday, February 13, 2014.
"The question being posed is a potentially life-saving one for the men in the crowd". "That's why we're asking . . . what's under yer kilt?"
(1888PressRelease) December 03, 2013 - The dinner provides a Jewish twist to the traditional Robbie Burnstein dinner, honouring the legacy of 18th Century poet, Robbie Burns, also known as the Scottish Bard.
Tartan kippahs and kilts are examples of the cultural fusion that has captured the imaginations of the multicultural crowd at the very popular annual dinner where men and women are encouraged to get their plaid on, with everything from a shirt or scarf to full Highland dress.
"The question being posed is a potentially life-saving one for the men in the crowd" says Burnstein founder and organizer Leonard Seidman. "That's why we're asking . . . what's under yer kilt?"
What's under there? Underwear!
"The Prostate Cancer Centre has been using checkered boxer shorts to underline to men over the age of 40 the importance of getting checked," says Prostate Cancer Centre Executive Director Pam Heard. We want to put blue checkered boxers under all those kilts!"
"We are very pleased to be supporting Prostate Cancer advocacy and education as part of our ongoing commitment to support and serve the community beyond our Synagogue doors," says Beth Tzedec's spiritual leader Rabbi Shaul Osadchey.
"While some of the proceeds of the dinner are earmarked for Synagogue programs, we take very seriously the obligation of tikkun olam, or repairing the world through social action. So we are delighted to be partnering with the Prostate Cancer Centre for this feel-good event."
"We are very fortunate to have wonderful friends, groups and organizations who support and endorse our work," says Prostate Cancer Centre Executive Director Pamela Heard.
"Beth Tzedec is one of our new friends, helping to raise awareness about the importance of early detection in the fight against prostate cancer."
The Third Annual Robbie Burnstein Dinner takes place Thursday February 13, 2013 at Beth Tzedec Synagogue, 1325 Glenmore Trail SW.
