AMPP's Materials Performance Hires Mersedeh Akhoondan as Technical Editor
Dr. Mersedeh Akhoondan is joining the Materials Performance (MP) team as technical editor to replace Jack Tinnea, MP’s long-time technical editor. Tinnea is retiring in April 2025.
- (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2025 - In this role, Akhoondan will be responsible for selecting and reviewing MP’s technical articles. She will collaborate with authors, members, and the magazine’s editorial advisory board to provide readers with timely and accurate technical content.
Dr. Akhoondan has over 15 years of experience in corrosion control and condition assessment of water and wastewater facilities, bridge infrastructures, solar power plants, and transit systems.
She has served as a corrosion specialist for HDR Engineering for over 12 years, collaborating with HDR’s multidisciplinary design teams across the United States and internationally. She has been involved with various Water Research Foundation projects and co-authored several publications at the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP).
Dr. Akhoondan earned her degrees from the University of South Florida (USF). Her research work at the USF Corrosion Laboratory was focused on the design, monitoring, and management of corrosion testing programs and computational modeling of corrosion systems.
Akhoondan is a registered civil professional engineer in the states of Florida, New York, and Texas. She has been a member of AMPP since 2006 and has numerous additional certifications, including BCI—Level 1 from AMPP.
