  • (1888PressRelease) July 14, 2015 - Toronto, ON - Mark Berry's new sales and production powerhouse AMG Visuals just added a new string to its bow : Berry is teaming up with talent manager Bob Shami at Shami Media Group in New York City to launch joint venture Shami-Berry Licensing Group.

    Bob Shami will oversee the international division and talent divisions, with the goal to build on the extensive talent base represented and expand into the multicultural market. The venture fits in strategically with AMG's interests, as well as the AMG TV division, launched last year by Berry with its front-runner cooking show, Sizzlin through AMG subsidiary B-Squared.

    "As a producer, financier and distributor we are committed to creating multicultural content and exploiting it globally," said Berry. "Our partnership with Shami Media Group will enable us to build even deeper relationships in this field and hopefully expand our Latino, urban and multicultural footprint yet further."

    Also revealed is that the ambitious Berry is actively looking to take AMG into direct distribution in emerging markets such as Asia and the Middle East. It is a measure of how far the company has come in the than less than seventeen years since Berry launched it in 1998. A game-changing music publishing investment by Canadian media giant Alliance Atlantis at the time gave Berry the building blocks to turn the company from a struggling indie company into a genuine media player.

    At this year's Cannes, for example, the company's slate includes new projects with James Brown estate, and brokering the new Pras (Fugees) documentary Sweet Micky Along with a rich Shami catalog of over 100 films.

    "It definitely helped change perceptions of us as a company," says Berry about the Shami Media Group deal. "In a highly volatile entertainment industry, it showed we were a viable long-term prospect."

    Berry's new affiliation with SMG will be used for corporate expansions such as library acquisitions and territorial distribution. Berry's banner now has arguably the most diverse offering compared to other indie peers. In addition, AMG handles SMG's content internationally, as well as an output deal with China's largest film group Shanghai Media Group to handle international sales in the Chinese market. That approach may put the company in good stead as international markets both theatrically and in terms of broadcast deals rise in importance.
