AMET University Chancellor Efthimios E Mitropoulos Delivers Convocation Lecture
AMET University, Chennai held its 2nd convocation on September 5th for the class of 2012. This day is celebrated as "Teachers' Day" all over India.
- (1888PressRelease) October 08, 2012 - Admiral Efthimios E Mitropoulos, the immediate past Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization and now the Chancellor of AMET University, who conferred the degrees and delivered the Convocation Address. He commended the performance of AMET University and said, "The fact that, during that time, the University has functioned smoothly, successfully delivering on its mandate and responding to the expectations of all concerned, is testimony to the dedication, hard work, commitment and devotion to duty of all in the management team, from the Chairman and senior staff (both academic and administrative) to the most junior faculty members."
On Teachers' Day, September 5, 2012 Chennai based AMET University held its 2nd convocation for the class of 2012. Admiral Efthimios E Mitropoulos, the immediate past Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization who is now the Chancellor of AMET University delivered the convocation address as well as conferred the degrees. AMET University's 2nd convocation started with a parade led by the Registrar, Controller of Examination, Heads of the departments and Deans, Members of the Board of Management, Vice-Chancellor, Chairman, Guest of honour and the Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor Capt. Bhardwaj sincerely welcomed the eminent invitees, successful students and their parents and delivered annual report where the spectators applauded.
The Managing Director of International Tanker Management Holding Ltd, Dubai, Mr. Lars Modin was the Guest of Honour to the 2nd convocation of the AMET University who distributed the gold medals and rank certificates to the toppers in different departments.
The Chairman of the AMET University, Dr J. Ramachandran praised the graduating batch students and their parents for completing the courses successfully. He stated "I perceive this as an occasion to bring awareness on the importance of knowledge and education as the groundwork for the development of any society." He also took pride in the cadets who have become the most adored Captains, Chief Engineers and Professionals providing top class leadership to the marine industry and who are competent enough to work under high pressure and uncertainty with a strong appetite for taking risks.
The University awarded degrees in Marine Technology, Naval Architecture, Shipping Management, Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Harbor Engineering, Marine Biotechnology and Marine EEE approximately to 700 students and 6 Ph.D degrees to Research Scholars from various departments with great joy and happiness. The graduating students were very enthusiastic about their achievement and degree awards in their graduation attire.
Several awards were distributed to the deserving students during the convocation ceremony as an appreciation of the hard work they contributed towards achieving their goal. The toppers were awarded Gold medals and Rank Certificates to different departments which totaled around 12 medals and 12 certificates.
