Ames, Iowa Chiropractor Hopes to Collect over 2,000 Pounds of Food for the Hungry of Central Iowa
Dr. Barbara Read of Read Health Center of Chiropractic vows to give away free services in exchange for non-perishable food donations, hoping to raise over 2,000 pounds of donations for Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA).
- Ames, IA (1888PressRelease) November 03, 2010 - Dr. Barbara Read of Read Health Center of Chiropractic is vowing to give away free services in exchange for food, in order to raise food bank deposits at Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA). At the end of the charity drive, she hopes to have collected over 2,000 pounds worth of non-perishable food. Participants are also encouraged to give monetary donations as well.
On November 19, 2010, Dr. Read (http://chiropractorames.com) will open her doors, offering free adjustments to all her current patients who bring in a bag of non-perishable food items. According to Read, the goal is to set 60 appointments on that Friday. Read also says that the event will continue for new patients on days prior to November 19. She has reserved times for 20 new patient consultations for the charity drive, and anyone who qualifies for care will receive their first date of service for free in exchange for a food donation.
"This is an amazing event that benefits the hungry of Ames, and Central Iowa, while it re-energizes our office." Read explained. "When we're all giving together it creates a healthy atmosphere for everyone involved. I love giving to my patients who are also willing to give. Feeling good and being healthy is what chiropractic care is all about."
This is not the first time that Read Health Center has had a charity day. "We've been doing this for a number of years, and each Thanksgiving season, the participation grows," said Read. Patients who receive an appointment on November 19 are also eligible for free chair massages from licensed massage therapist Carol Pearson.
Dr. Barbara Read practices in Ames, Iowa, at Read Health Center of Chiropractic. She is Board Certified by the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) and has been in practice in Iowa since 2003. She graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1997.

Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. (MICA) is a private, non-profit organization serving children and families in central Iowa. Established in 1965 to serve children and families affected by the conditions of poverty, MICA's foundational programs include: Early Head Start, Head Start, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Maternal and Child Health, Weatherization, Energy Assistance, and Family Development. MICA primarily serves families in Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek, Story, and Tama County.
