- (1888PressRelease) September 19, 2011 - America's Got Talent has introduced the world to many intriguing acts and personalities-perhaps none more so than 2011 semi-finalist Lys Agnès. The operatic virtuoso won the hearts of viewers and judges alike with her dramatic performances, striking beauty, and inspiring story of emerging from a painful past. This week, for the first time, Ms. Agnès opens up about her spiritual journey in an in-depth interview with Jodi Chapman of Soul Speak (www.jodichapman.com), the popular spiritual-themed blog.
"I've always been spiritually driven and aware of the spiritual world around us," Lys says, telling about how she went to live at a convent when she was just 17. "I gave up everything I owned, cut my hair, and was at the most spiritually centered place I have ever been in my life."
Since leaving the convent, however, her life has been full of highs, lows, and tests of faith-most profoundly, the death of her fiancé three years ago, which caused Lys to temporarily give up on her singing. In the interview, Lys shares how she overcame depression and found the strength to come back to life and pursue her dreams once again-heeding the inner voice that told her, "go now, or die silent."
She also busts some of the myths about the instant fame and fortune that supposedly comes from high-profile TV appearances, revealing the less-than-glamorous truth about her life since AGT.
"Lys's experiences show how much we all have in common," says Soul Speak author, Jodi Chapman. "Whether we lead quiet, private lives or live in the public eye, we all want to connect with our souls and fulfill our higher calling. I'm so grateful that Lys was willing to share such a wise, authentic piece of her soul with me and my readers."
Lys's journey has been a roller-coaster of public praise and media backlash, yet through it all she's managed to stay centered on what's most important. "Love is all that matters," she says. "Forget the rest."
