Allstate Named 2012 Best Company for Multicultural Women
Diverse workforce and commitment to inclusive diversity lands Allstate on top-25 list for last nine years.
- (1888PressRelease) July 10, 2012 - Working Mother magazine has selected Allstate Insurance Company as one the 25 "Best Companies for Multicultural Women" for their ability to hire, retain and advance multicultural women. Allstate landed a spot on this year's list based on a number of important factors, including hiring multicultural women for 32% of all open positions in 2011.
Allstate offers eight employee network groups that provide peer coaching and over 80 career advancement programs for employees throughout the country. The programs illustrate for employees everything from how to tackle workplace challenges, to the best ways to access industry experts. Recently, Allstate created a series of development sessions with the African American Working Network and Professional Latino Allstate Network on creating a professional presence and a series on making lasting connections.
"Allstate is committed to having a diverse workforce that is able to address contemporary challenges facing our industry," said Michael Escobar, vice president for diversity and inclusion at Allstate. "When a workforce mirrors the communities where we work and live, our company is more successful, our employees have a more rewarding experience, and our customers get the service they deserve."
For executive women, there are several new mentoring and leadership initiatives underway; around 1 in 10 multicultural women occupy management roles that make them bonus-eligible. Allstate also allows 90% of workers to flex their schedules.
"The Best Companies for Multicultural Women value the power of a diverse workforce and work hard to make sure their pipelines are filled with talented women of color," says Jennifer Owens, director of the Working Mother Research Institute. "Even beyond mentoring and networking programs, these companies are reaching out to professional and school groups and sponsoring recruitment events to attract the best multicultural female talent."
