  • Memphis, TN-AR-MS (1888PressRelease) September 19, 2013 - All Star Spanish announces a new all inclusive Spanish language study program for homeschool and unschool students. Located in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, "Our program helps teens to significantly improve their Spanish comprehension and conversation skills in a very short time while living in a safe, beautiful resort environment," says All Star founder, Scot Cowan.

Home school students face a unique set of disadvantages when studying a foreign language including exclusive use of computer instruction, little actual conversation, and difficulty in developing an ear, or verbal comprehension of the language. All-Star Spanish addresses all of these barriers to learning Spanish.

Our students study one-on-one with a certified language instructor for a total of 80 hours over four weeks. Our Spanish instructors travel to our students to tutor outdoors overlooking Lake Atitlan and its surrounding volcanoes. Aldous Huxley proclaimed Lake Atitlan "the most beautiful lake in the world" and "really too much of a good thing."

Students interact with the community by traveling around the lake with their teachers and bilingual chaperones to practice their Spanish, experience the culture, volunteer, and see up close the natural wonder of a tropical forest in the spring-like highlands of Guatemala. Students also travel further into Guatemala on adventurous excursions.

Most teen homeschool students can adjust their academic schedule to travel year round making this business model cost effective and eventually a year round endeavor.

"Our goal is to do two trips in 2014, May and September, then to increase our frequency of trips until we have students studying 8 months of the year." says All Star founder Michelle Cowan.

The founders are a married couple with two teenagers who have spent months traveling to this area of Guatemala and studying Spanish with their own children, and this year added two nieces to the trip. They saw a great improvement in the teens Spanish proficiency, but also saw them mature, and broaden their understanding from there month of living, not just vacationing, abroad. The founders want to bring this unique experience to other teens, in an affordable, all-inclusive package.

Plans for 2014 include a Spring and a Fall Session. See website for details.
