- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 09, 2011 - Critically- acclaimed composer Alexandre Desplat scores Warner Bros. drama Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, directed by Stephen Daldry and produced by Scott Rudin. Based on Jonathan Safran Foer's novel, the film tells the story of a nine-year-old boy who loses his father in the September 11 attacks and goes on a journey across New York to find a lock- box that matches a key left behind by his father. The film stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, and newcomer Thomas Horn. The movie opens to limited engagements December 2011 and worldwide January 2012.
For this score, Desplat recorded in New York City with over 90 musicians, working very closely with Daldry and Rudin. The composer enlisted world renowned piano virtuoso Jean- Yves Thibaudet to perform on the score. Thibaudet stated, ""I loved working with Alexandre Desplat. He knows exactly what he wants, which is both helpful and inspiring." After many rigorous writing sessions, Desplat recorded the score for this inspiring story in four days, with several double and triple sessions.
Literally Hollywood's most in-demand composer, Alexandre Desplat has worked with a prestigious and diverse list of directors, including David Yates (Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Parts I and II), David Fincher (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Roman Polanski (Carnage, Ghost Writer) and most recently George Clooney (Ides of March). Alexandre Desplat made his Hollywood breakthrough in 2003 with his stately score for Girl with a Pearl Earring, which garnered him a Golden Globe nomination. After solidifying himself as a diverse artist with Birth, he went on to score films such as The Painted Veil and Fantastic Mr. Fox. He has received four Oscar nominations including last year's The King's Speech.
In addition to his film work, Alexandre Desplat has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Czech Philharmonic. He also teaches master classes at La Sorbonne in Paris and London's Royal College of Music.
