  • Jackson, TN (1888PressRelease) June 25, 2013 - Rick Dover, Knoxville area entrepreneur, announces the kickoff of renovations on the Alexander Inn. After a long period of planning and approvals, Rick Dover of Knoxville says his Family Pride Corporation finally has the go-ahead to begin renovations on the historical structure, which will be used as a senior living community, according to Rick Dover. Knoxville and surrounding areas are home to several historic buildings Family Pride Corporation has renovated and repurposed in recent years, including Knoxville's Oakwood Elementary School, which Family Pride Corporation is currently converting into an assisted living and memory care facility.

Erected during the Manhattan Project, the Alexander Inn, also known as the Guest House, enjoyed five decades as home to guests before finally shutting its doors in the '90s, Rick Dover of Knoxville explains. According to Rick Dover, Knoxville and Oak Ridge hosted many visitors who stayed at the inn while visiting the "Secret City," including several VIPs. Since closing its doors, Rick Dover of Knoxville says the building has experienced significant deterioration despite being on the National Register of Historic Places since 1993.

As Rick Dover, Knoxville businessman, explains, the renovation is a $5.3 million project, which, when complete, will house 60 rooms for seniors. Rick Dover and Knoxville team members anticipate the remodel will take approximately one year, beginning with stabilizing the collapsed sections of the Alexander Inn and rerouting the storm sewer. Rick Dover, Knoxville, emphasizes that Family Pride Corporation will retain the original structure, simply strengthening and remodeling it.

The city, in support of Family Pride Corporation's efforts to renovate the Alexander Inn, has awarded property tax breaks to the company, according to Rick Dover, Knoxville. As Rick Dover of Knoxville explains, the tax breaks will offset part of the exorbitant cost to remodel the property, which has become dilapidated over the two decades it has been abandoned.

The Department of Energy awarded a grant of $500,000 to Knox Heritage to preserve the building, Rick Dover, Knoxville entrepreneur, says. Rick Dover of Knoxville adds that the grant was part of another initiative that strives to preserve parts of Oak Ridge's former K-25 uranium enrichment site.

The project has been delayed recently due to a dispute over ownership of the property, describes Rick Dover. Knoxville Heritage officials say that in order to begin work on the Alexander Inn, first the deeds must be signed by all involved parties, explains Rick Dover, Knoxville. Rick Dover and Knoxville staff have agreed to ensure the renovation of the Alexander Inn meets the guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Interior pertaining to historic buildings.

Family Pride Corporation specializes in saving and restoring historic structures for use as senior living facilities, according to Rick Dover. Knoxville has a growing need for housing for aging baby boomers, and these historic structures are the perfect solution to that need, Rick Dover of Knoxville believes. Rick Dover of Knoxville and Family Pride Corporation have been recognized for their efforts, winning several awards for their preservation efforts. As Rick Dover, Knoxville, explains, Family Pride Corporation has been acknowledged as Preservationist of the Year by Loudon County, Nine Counties, and the East Tennessee Historical Society.
