Albena Reveals her Perception of the World through Art at Agora Gallery
Albena is a contemporary artist whose approach is simple - she paints what she sees. Perception of the world is all she uses for her art. Invigorating energy floods her perceptions with images. She doesn't have fixed contours of the silhouette that she is working on; she just lets the image come out in its chosen shapes and colors.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) June 07, 2011 - Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature a Bulgarian artist, Albena, in Elements of Abstraction. The exhibition is scheduled to run from June 30, 2011 through July 21, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, July 07, 2011).
About the Artist
Albena's acrylic paintings on canvas are ingenious mixed media compositions crafted from various materials. A proponent of the use of found objects, Albena scavenges for trashed paper, cardboard and torn canvas to enhance her craft. Achieving a variously textured topographic quality, the works express a uniquely visceral idealization of nature. Trees peak out from behind shimmering atmospheric clouds of turquoise and rose. A foreboding sunset is framed in a bursting flame of crimson mist. Jewel tones and metallic accents reoccur, imbuing Albena's impressionistic landscapes with mystical qualities. Evoking a dreamy sense of something beyond the world we know, and reflecting the emotionality inherent in nature, these beautiful creations reflect the artist's ability to step back and see the underlying simplicity in a complex world. Her gift of unique perspective was part of her vision even as a child and has been enhanced throughout her life by the numerous transitions she has witnessed and the range of surroundings, cultures and people she has experienced.
Albena was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and currently lives in Washington, DC.
