AiNET Commences Construction of Metro Fiber Optic Network in Washington, DC
Expansion of AiNET's current regional network with a new state-of-the-art 3-ring, 9,600 fiber-route mile, DWDM fiber optic network throughout downtown Washington, DC will satisfy bandwidth hunger in nation's capital and give commercial and Government users access to a range of mission-critical applications residing in AiNET data centers.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) October 14, 2011 - AiNET®, a leader in design, construction, operations, and technology solutions for Internet data centers and fiber optic networks supporting critical applications, today announced that it has commenced construction on a new fiber optic network that will span the entire downtown Washington, DC area.
Using the latest DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) technology, the AiNET network will bring virtually limitless capacity to many underserved users with applications hungry for bandwidth. Areas served by this extensive, 3-ring, 9,600 fiber-route mile network include: Georgetown, the lower Wisconsin Avenue district, the West End, Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, the K Street corridor, Penn Quarter, and the Central Business District (CBD) - with special focus on high concentrations of Federal office buildings, surrounding the Capital, and south of the National Mall. Notably, the network will be completed underground and offer a high degree of diversity from the fiber routes already in place.
"Data center and Cloud customers need high speed, highly reliable connectivity. This expansion of our existing network, throughout Maryland, DC and Virginia will enhance connectivity between AiNET's Tier IV data centers, carrier hotels and many customer facilities," said Deepak Jain, President of AiNET. Carrier hotels served by AiNET's existing network include 1275 K Street in Washington and 300 West Lexington Street in Baltimore. With the network in place, those in newly-served buildings in Washington will have immediate access to the full range of AiNET's mission-critical applications including its best-in-class Cloud, Trusted Storage (as a Service), Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations (DR/COOP), and Internet access services.
Jain added, "Qualified Federal and DC government agencies can have physical access to AiNET's Cloud services and COOP services via our fiber optic network and contractual access to them through AiNET's GSA Schedule." Last week AiNET announced that it has been awarded a GSA Schedule 70 contract for cloud services including Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Trusted Storage as a Service (TSaaS).
AiNET will offer capacity on this network directly to large end users and through its channel of carrier partners for others.
