African-American Rower To Meet Cuban Santeros During Papal Visit

- (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2012 - Victor Mooney of Queens, New York announced today that he'll meet his brothers and sisters in Cuba for a African libation ceremony for all those who survived and perished during the transatlantic slave trade. Mooney traces his African roots also to the Yoruba tribe. Mooney's arrival in Cuba will follow his pilgrimage to Mexico for Pope Benedict XVI apostolic visit. Arm with soccer balls, astro turf and portable goals, Mooney plans to run a soccer goal-a-thon that's being promoted as "Score a goal for The Blessed John Paul" from March 21 to March 25 outside Bicentennial Park in Guanajuato, Mexico. Mooney will pursuit a world-record attempt for the most soccer goals scored for a Pope. "The campaign will continue in Havana at Revolution Square from March 27 to 28, god-willing", said Mooney.
In recent wire reports, Mooney discussed his fourth bid to row across the Atlantic Ocean. He failed on his first three attempts. Pope John Paul II blessed Mooney for this mission at the Vatican on World AIDS Day. Mooney will follow one of routes in the Middle Passage - the segment that his ancestors took unwillingly in a twenty-four foot ocean rowboat named The Blessed John Paul later this year, which was custom built in Brazil. Mooney hopes his journey will encourage voluntary HIV testing.
