  • (1888PressRelease) February 08, 2022 - The most recent development in south west hot air ballooning news might not have been what readers were expecting. Few will have missed out on seeing the viral video that caught the imagination of the entire nation on the 30th of January. The video features Joe Jenkins, a popular YouTuber with nearly four million subscribers known for his fun and exciting musical stunts, taking his piano to the skies with the help of one of Aerosaurus’ own hot air balloon pilots!

    What Happened In The Video?

20-year-old Joe has built his entertainment career off the back of his inventive piano stunts, but this time around he wanted to aim even higher, and how better than to take his piano on a hot air balloon ride! The Bristol born internet sensation was certainly inspired by the international fiesta of hot air ballooning that takes place in the South West city every year, but there was also one other inspiration he said was equally important. The Pixar film Up.

It was his desire to play the theme tune to this iconic family film that prompted him to get in contact with Pete, one of our hot air balloon pilots, in order to take his piano up into the sky. In the video, you can see Joe and Pete dressed as the heroes of the film, Carl and Russell, as they sail across the South West in a hot air balloon to the sound of Joe’s piano.

How Did They Get A Piano In A Hot Air Balloon?

Pulling off this latest stunt was no easy feat. In fact, in a behind the scenes video Joe explains that a year and a half of planning went in to achieving liftoff for this south west hot air balloon feat.

After some poorly thought out attempts to recreate the film by playing the theme tune with some small balloons stuck to his piano, Joe made plans to get in touch with Aerosaurus hot air balloon pilot Pete and get this idea off the ground.

The first issue was finding a hot air balloon basket large enough to fit him, Pete, and his piano. After a visit to Cameron Balloons, the world’s largest manufacturer of hot air balloons, he still found that their smallest basket was an agonising two inches too small. This forced Joe to spend hours looking for an even smaller piano, but even after doing that he was forced to saw pieces off of the instrument before it would fit them all!

Faced with all these hurdles to surmount over the months to make his musical south west hot air balloon flight a reality, Joe was understandably discouraged. However, he said that pilot Pete was an endless source of optimism throughout the difficult processes, and, as can be seen from the video, the headaches were definitely worth it.
