Adelphi University School of Social Work to Honor Susan P. Kemp, Ph.D with the Lodge Prize
At the School's annual Alumni and Friends Event, Adelphi University School of Social Work will honor Dr. Susan P. Kemp with the 2011 Richard Lodge Prize.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2011 - Adelphi University School of Social Work is proud to honor the 2011 Richard Lodge Prize recipient, Dr. Susan P. Kemp at the School's annual Alumni and Friends Event, on Friday, May 6, 2011. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Adelphi's Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The keynote will address the concept of "space consciousness" and its applications to the social work practice. All practitioners involved in healthcare issues or working with diverse populations, as well as human service professionals and community leaders who are committed to addressing health disparities, are encouraged to attend. Registration is required.
The keynote address, "Where Our Clients Live: Integrating 'Place Consciousness' in Clinical Practice," will be delivered by Dr. Kemp, the Charles O. Cressey Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Social Work. In addition to publishing numerous articles and chapters regarding person-place relationships, place-based interventions, and spatial perspectives in social work practice, Dr. Kemp co-edited two 2011 books and co-authored the 1997 book Person-Environment Practice: The Social Ecology of Interpersonal Helping. Her examination of the idea of place and its applications to social work affirm its importance as a multifaceted force that can ultimately be changed to increase individual well-being.
Following the keynote will be the presentation of the 2011 Richard Lodge Prize and Field Educator of the Year Awards, as well as informative clinical workshops and a networking reception. The prize is named for the late Dr. Richard Lodge, a leading social work educator and Adelphi University professor. The prize honors individuals for their outstanding contributions to the development of the social work profession.
