Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott Receives a 2010 PCLI Media Award
Adelphi University is proud to announce that its president Dr. Robert A. Scott was honored with a top prize in the "Print Weeklies" editorial category of the 2010 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards Competition.

Scott was honored with a top prize in the "Print Weeklies" editorial category of the 2010 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards Competition. His opinion piece, "Too Big to Succeed on LI," published in Long Island Business News focused on economic development projects that are too elaborate to succeed, such as the Lighthouse Project, the Nassau Hub, Riverhead redevelopment, or Heartland Square. The annual PCLI competition celebrates the hard work of reporters, writers, and photographers on Long Island.
Appointed by the Adelphi University Board of Trustees as the ninth president and professor of anthropology and sociology in July 2000, Dr. Scott has been the driving force behind Adelphi University's recent success. The author of often-cited works on global issues, higher education, public policy, and ethics, he has built on Adelphi's rich traditions in undergraduate and graduate education and continues to link the liberal arts and sciences with professional programs and has spearheaded Adelphi's dedication to the larger community.
Dr. Scott has received a number of prestigious awards including: One of the 100 Most Influential Long Islanders by Long Island Business News; Telly Awards for his cable television show Exploring Critical Issues; the Emerald Literati Club's 2003 Outstanding Paper accolade; The Association for Commerce Industry and Technology Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Higher Education; the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Achievement Award; and the prestigious 2008 Chief Executive Leadership Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District II.
Dr. Scott also serves on the boards of Global Kids, Inc.; Sustainable Long Island; and the Long Island Association, and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Under his leadership, the University was elected as a non-governmental organization (NGO) affiliate of the United Nations. Additionally, Dr. Scott has been a speaker and consultant for universities in North America, Europe, and Asia, and has represented the United States Departments of Education and State at numerous international forums. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University and a bachelor's of arts degree in English from Bucknell University.
The Press Club of Long Island is a professional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists devoted to protecting and advocating for First Amendment rights, furthering ethical standards and providing ongoing training for its members. Founded in 1974 to counteract the imprisonment of a reporter who kept the confidentiality of a source, PCLI is one of the Society of Professional Journalists' largest professional chapters.
