Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott on the Long Island Press Power List 2013
President Scott was chosen as one of the 50 named on the Long Island Press Power List 2013.
- Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) July 13, 2013 - Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott was chosen by the Long Island Press as one of Long Island's most 50 influential people. The Power List, announced every year by the LI Press, acknowledges individuals living on the island who have significantly impacted their communities. The honorees were celebrated on June 25, 2013 at The Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, NY.
President Scott was appointed by the Adelphi University Board of Trustees as the ninth president and professor anthropology and sociology in July 2000. He is the only individual to hold the top three positions in American higher education: head of a public institution, a state coordinating board and a private university. Dr. Scott has authored more than 200 scholarly essays and articles and hosts a regularly televised award-winning program entitled, "Exploring Critical Issues." He has represented the United States in international negotiations with UNESCO, the Council of Europe and countries in the Asia/Pacific region.
Under Dr. Scott's leadership, Adelphi University was elected as an affiliate of the United Nations, enrollment increased nearly 40 percent, undergraduate enrollment increased by 66 percent and total assets of the university to more than $400 million, up from $142 million. More than 300 new faculty and dozens of new programs and services have been added, including the Center for Health Innovation and Center for Nonprofit Leadership. For eight consecutive years, Adelphi was cited by The Fiske Guide to Colleges as one of the nation's "best and most interesting" institutions and has been listed among a select number of "Best Buys" in higher education. He is the recipient of many awards including the 100 Most Influential Long Islanders by Long Island Business News and the 2008 Chief Executive Leadership Award by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District II, among many others.
