  • (1888PressRelease) August 31, 2012 - The Adelphi University Exhibitions Program is honored to present an exclusive one-week exhibition featuring select works by Edgar Degas (1834-1917), Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), and Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). The works are on generous loan from the Adele and Herbert J. Klapper collection. Lautrec, Degas, Rodin: Selections From The Adele And Herbert J. Klapper Collection will be on view in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY from Sunday, September 23 to Thursday, September 27, 2012.

Lautrec, Degas, Rodin: Selections From The Adele And Herbert J. Klapper Collection showcases 3 artists from the late 19th and early 20th century. On view will be a rare oil painting by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec of a young dancer adjusting the ruffled skirt of her costume entitled Danseuse, along with several Degas dancers cast in bronze in various dance positions, and the bronze sculpture L'Eternel Printemps - premier état (The Eternal Spring) by Auguste Rodin.

This exclusive exhibition is made possible by Adele Klapper '92, M.A. '99. A collection built on love, for art and for each other, Adele and her late husband Herbert collected masterpieces from the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries for over two decades. Previous exhibitions of their collection had been on view in the Adele and Herbert J. Klapper Center for Fine Arts on the Garden City campus. In recognition of Adele's generous support to Adelphi University and its art programs, the building was dedicated in their honor in 2007. In the same year, she was honored with the Outstanding Service to Adelphi award at the annual President's Gala. In 2005, Adele Klapper received the President's Medal of Merit, the highest award given by Adelphi's president.
