- Nassau-Suffolk, NY (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2010 - Adelphi University proudly presents its sixth Outdoor Sculpture Biennial exhibited throughout the Garden City campus, 1 South Avenue. On view from October 3, 2010 through May 30, 2012, the Biennial features the diverse works of ten sculptors. An opening reception with the artists was held on Sunday, October 3, 2010. The exhibition reflects the University's continuing commitment to bring contemporary visual art to Adelphi students, faculty, and staff, as well as visitors from the New York metropolitan area and beyond. The public is welcome to visit and attend the free reception.
This outdoor installation features work by ten talented, skilled, and accomplished sculptors from the United States and Europe: Richard Brachman (NY), Miggy Buck (NY), John Cino (NY), Maria Hall (NY), Jerelyn Hanrahan (NY), David Jacobs (NY), Peter Lipman-Wulf (NY), Kim Radochia (MA), Jeff Shapiro (NY), and Pål Svensson (Sweden). The sculptures encompass a variety of approaches and techniques: from carved wood, cast bronze and concrete to stoneware and welded steel. The Biennial artists also address diverse subjects from primary structures and environmental concerns to historical references and mystical poetic concepts.
The exhibition focuses on the way the environment can influence and shape the viewers' perception of these large-scale outdoor sculptures. A walk through our arboretum gardens and pathways reveals each sculpture in its specific location. The sculptures adapt to their surroundings as they are transformed by seasonal and landscape changes throughout the duration of the exhibition.
