Adelphi University Presents Eighth Annual Conference for Peace and Human Rights
Adelphi will explore ideals of peace and sustainability during a panel discussion on "Sustainable Peace and Western Sahara" and a visit to the United Nations Headquarters to attend briefings on peace, human rights, and sustainable development.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) March 13, 2013 - Adelphi University will explore ideals of peace and sustainability in a two day event with the Eighth Annual Conference for Peace and Human Rights on March 21 and 22, 2013. This event is sponsored by the Adelphi University Diversity Committee, and the Schools of Social Work, College of Arts and Sciences and the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education.
The first day of the event, March 21, will focus on "Sustainable Peace and Western Sahara" and will include an in-depth panel discussion followed by a question and answer session taking place on campus in the Ruth S. Harley University Center at 10:50 a.m. The panel will include a diverse range of perspectives on issues pertaining to human rights, identity, conflict, and sovereignty in Western Sahara. Panelists for the event include Spanish artist Federico Guzmán, Professor Abdelhamid Jaber, Ph.D. of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University, Senior Report Matthew Lee of the Inner City Press, and Executive Director Carne Ross of Independent Diplomat. Adelphi Professor Devin Thornburg, Ph.D. will moderate the discussion.
On March 22, there will be a trip to the United Nations Headquarters for a full day of exploring exhibits and attending briefings on peace, human rights, and sustainable development. Students will also have an opportunity to attend presentations exploring careers in the United Nations. Students and interested faculty are encouraged to travel by chartered bus to the UN with the University's contingent or join the group at any time during the day-long event.
