The field will now be known as Motamed Field.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) July 10, 2010 - Adelphi University has announced that it will name its athletic competition field, part of its new outdoor sports stadium, in recognition of the generous support and leadership of its Board of Trustees Chairman, Thomas F. Motamed, Class of 1971. Mr. Motamed is the chairman and chief executive officer of CNA Financial Corporation (NYSE: CNA)
Motamed Field, as it will now be known, is the home of the Adelphi Panthers (aupanthers.com) men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams as well as its women's field hockey team. Mr. Motamed was a captain of the men's lacrosse team while a student at the University, is a member of the University's Million Dollar Round Table, and serves as co-chair of the Steering Committee for The Campaign for Adelphi University.
"I first learned the meaning of discipline, sacrifice, teamwork, and leadership while playing lacrosse at Adelphi," said Mr. Motamed. "I've carried these values with me and owe my professional success to them. In supporting the University, I am giving Adelphi students a chance to thrive on the field and in
life. It gives me great pleasure to be able to invest in the University and am humbled by this recognition."
"Tom's vision and generosity as a charter member of the Million Dollar Round Table ushers Adelphi into a new period of growth, opportunity, and driving purpose," said Michael Campbell '65, immediate past chairman of the Board and fellow member of the University's Million Dollar Round Table. "It is an honor to serve with him as a fellow alumnus and trustee. He brings vision and leadership to his role and is an inspiration to his fellow board members. He challenges us to sustain the legacy of this great University."
Motamed Field is the centerpiece of the University's new world-class outdoor stadium complex. Completed in 2008, the stadium is a 100,000 square-foot facility. Motamed Field, a synthetic all-weather surface utilizing recycled rubber products, sits atop the University's innovative underground parking
facility and is a cornerstone of the U.S Green Building Council L.E.E.D certified project that transformed the University. In May 2011, Adelphi will host the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and III Women's Lacrosse National Championship tournament on Motamed Field.
Mr. Motamed has served the University with distinction since joining the Board in 2005. and oversight of all business units of CNA Financial Corporation.
Before joining CNA, he retired from his 31-year career at The Chubb Corporation where he began as a claims trainee and rose to serve as vice chairman and chief operating officer.
