  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) January 09, 2014 - On Monday, January 13, Adelphi University will host its annual Community Fellows employer training seminar. Recognizing the high demand for internships by college students, Adelphi University has implemented the Community Fellows Program, providing students with full-time paid summer internships at local nonprofit organizations. The employer training seminar will cover expectations and outcomes for both nonprofit employers and the university on behalf of its students. The event is taking place at the Long Island Children's Museum in Garden City, NY from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Keynote speaker, Ally Bunin, assistant vice president of internal communications at North Shore-LIJ will speak on, "Employer Branding from the Inside out: Leveraging your Fellows to be your Digital Communicators and Brand Ambassadors." Bunin is responsible for all of North Shore-LIJ's internal communications and channels including the Intranet and social media platform. She has received more than a dozen awards for her work including an IABC Gold Quill Award and PRSA Silver Anvil in 2011 for the "Going Green with Employee Self Service" campaign which was recognized for changing the organization's culture.

Following the keynote address will be a panel discussion led by nonprofit leaders of participating organizations including Bob Block, executive director of Five Towns Community Chest; Joan Flynn, volunteer and community relations manager of Island Harvest; Barbara Jordan, co-director and board member of Cedarmore Corporation; Audrey O'Malley, education staff manager of Long Island Children's Museum; and Jane Reilly, senior manager of community engagements and public education of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Two break-out sessions are scheduled prior to the conclusion of the seminar.

In today's tough job market, internships provide students with skills and experience that future employers value. A survey conducted by internship.com found that 66% of employers believe interview performance and relevant work experience are the most important factors in their hiring decisions. This experiential learning program provides students the opportunity to gain practical work experience and serve vital community needs while expanding their professional networks. This year, 60 students and 50 nonprofit organizations will participate in the program, made possible through the donations of friends and donors of the university.
