Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2014 - Adamo Group was presented with the University of Michigan Safety First Recognition Award on March 7, at the Kensington Court Hotel in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Chris Mathews, project superintendent at Adamo Group, accepted the award on behalf of Adamo Group for their work on the U of M Munger Residence demolition project.

Occupational Safety & Environmental Health (OSEH) recognizes employees who are making U of M a SAFE place with the Safety First Recognition Award. OSEH selects winners from nominations received from the U of M community. Nominees must satisfy at least 1 or more of 5 criteria, including:

1. Outstanding in-house safety
2. Active role in safety
3. Improvement
4. Consistency
5. Product or process development and implementation

Adamo Group was recognized for being active in the overall safety of the project, its employees, other subcontractors, and the general public, and for identifying other necessary precautions as the need arose. Since school was in session, the project was extremely time sensitive and posed many challenges. Several factors had to be considered, including pedestrian traffic, noise control, traffic control, and dust control. "Because of these issues, we had to proceed with great caution every step of the way," said Chris Mathews. "We created temporary walkways to compensate for the sidewalk closures necessary for tree removal and demolition, and constructed fencing to keep students at a safe distance from the project. Every aspect required a pre-task approval by Walbridge, the project general contractor, and U of M safety programs. As a result of careful pre-planning and execution, we are proud to report zero incidents throughout the project."
