Action Speaks Louder Officially Launches
Encourages Self-Funded Political Candidates to Donate to Help the Greater Community.
- (1888PressRelease) September 01, 2010 - SAN FRANCISCO - Action Speaks LouderSM, a nonpartisan grass-roots organization, officially launches today. Its purpose is to encourage self-funded political candidates across the nation to donate-at minimum-an amount equal to 20 percent of their personal campaign dollars to civic endeavors of their choice.
By pledging hard dollars of their own money, while campaigning, to existing programs in areas such as education, health care, job training or crime prevention, candidates can prove to the public their true commitment to programs consistent with their expressed ideologies and, in turn, improve our cities, our states and our nation. Action Speaks Louder's long-term goal is to change how self-funded political campaigns are conducted.
To win votes, self-funded political candidates are spending unprecedented sums of their personal money. In California, one candidate has personally spent more than $100 million and another is not too far behind.
"The general public is outraged, particularly now in times of economic crisis. Part of these dollars could be spent to accomplish promised objectives," says Paul Gutierrez, the organizer's spokesperson. "Action Speaks Louder challenges self-funded candidates to put into action, before the election, the promises they promote on the campaign trail. It is the organization's hope that this cause will grow to encompass all political campaigns from local, to state, to national."
Action Speaks Louder does not support or endorse any candidate. It is rallying the greater public to tackle this issue and influence candidates to contribute money to the causes that will make a real difference to our communities. Voters have a voice: speak up and let candidates know that their actions speak louder than their words. For more information visit www.action-speaks-louder.org.
