ACT Today! Receives a $10,000 CVS Caremark Community Grant
Grant to ACT Today! for Military Families Program is part of CVS Caremark's Commitment to Supportive Wellness and Preventive Programs.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2014 - ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) announced today that it has received a $10,000 CVS Caremark Community Grant for its 4th Annual ONEHOPE ACT Today! for Military Families 5k/10k Run/Walk & Family Festival, held on Saturday, April 19th at Tecolote Shores Park in Mission Bay, San Diego. The Community Grants Program was created by CVS Caremark as part of its commitment to help people achieve their best health by providing financial assistance to programs that are focused on wellness and prevention. The support from CVS Caremark will help ACT Today! provide grants for care and treatment to military families with children with autism, through its ACT Today! for Military Families (ATMF) program.
ACT Today! is a national, non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness and provide treatment services and support to families to help their children with autism achieve their full potential. These services include therapy, medical care, social skills programs, assistive technology and safety equipment, to name a few. ACT Today! created ATMF in 2010 to extend support to military families.
"Military families are often relocated and those with children with special needs experience significant treatment gaps in care and support. The CVS Caremark Grant will allow us to bridge that gap and help lighten the load military families carry," says Nancy Alspaugh-Jackson, ACT Today! executive director."
"We have a long-standing commitment to organizations that are helping all kids on their path to better health," said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility & Philanthropy, CVS Caremark. "We are pleased to support the work that ACT Today! does in the community and we look forward to working with them in fulfilling their program's mission."
ACT Today! was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Caremark Community Grants application process. Grants were awarded to programs offered in a community or public school setting that help build healthy habits such as chronic disease management, nutrition and exercise and health screenings.
CVS Caremark Community Grants were also awarded to inclusive programs targeted at supporting wellness initiatives for children with disabilities such as physical activity and play. The goal of the CVS Caremark Community Grants Program is to help people achieve their best possible health outcomes.
Participants of the 4th Annual ONEHOPE ACT Today! for Military Families 5k/10k Run/Walk & Family Festival will enjoy a scenic 5k, 10k (both chip-timed) or 1 mile fun run. After crossing the finish line, they can celebrate at the family festival hosted by actor/comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence ("Glee" and "Chuck"), featuring live entertainment, beer garden/wine tent provided by ONEHOPE Wine and Stone Brewing Co. (for those 21 and over), resource fair with over 35 vendor booths, and a kids' zone sponsored by Center for Autism & Related Disorders (inflatables, carnival games, face painting, arts & crafts, kids egg hunt and ABA- staffed Quiet Zone).
