With strong growth in ABS output, it is estimated that ABS will surpass acrylic fiber to be the largest consumption filed of acrylonitrile in China in the coming years.
- (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2011 - With strong growth in ABS output, it is estimated that ABS will surpass acrylic fiber to be the largest consumption filed of acrylonitrile in China in the coming years, according to CCM's report Market of Acrylonitrile in China.
Production of acrylonitrile in China starts to develop quickly in 2010 after experiencing a stable growth. As of June 2011, there are only 10 acrylonitrile producers in China. Most of them are held by PetroChina and Sinopec, two largest petrochemical magnates in China.
Nowadays, acrylonitrile production is mainly distributed in Northeast China, East China and Northwest China, where large petrochemical producers can supply abundant raw materials, especially propylene for acrylonitrile production. But the production output can't meet the rising demand of acrylonitrile these years.
China is still a net importer of acrylonitrile in 2010. To meet the large demand of acrylonitrile in domestic market, China has to import a large amount of acrylonitrile annually, while the export volume of acrylonitrile is zero in 2009 and 2010.
In China, acrylonitrile is mainly used in the production of acrylic fibers, ABS, acrylamide, NBR, etc. Boosted by ABS, acrylamide and NBR, consumption of acrylonitrile increased fast in the past five years. Meanwhile, with the drop of acrylonitrile consumption in acrylic fibers, consumption pattern of acrylonitrile has changed much from 2006 to 2010 in China. With strong growth in ABS output, it is estimated that ABS will surpass acrylic fiber to be the largest consumption filed of acrylonitrile in China in the coming years.
