About Face And Body Embraces Babies In The Workplace Concept With New Manager Of Retail Operations
About Face and Body (AFAB) joins more than 180 organizations that advocate babies in the workplace with the hire of their new Manager of Retail Operations Ycela Zendejas-Pelta.
- Oakland, CA (1888PressRelease) December 11, 2013 - At About Face and Body (AFAB) Day Spa you may see a precious little baby girl in the midst of the day-to-day operations. She is the latest family addition to Ycela Zendejas-Pelta, AFAB's new Manager of Retail Operations. Zendejas-Pelta joined the AFAB team back in May 2013, when she was five months pregnant. Concerned that a typical maternity leave would mean separating from her daughter at a very young age, she expressed this to AFAB Spa Founder/Owner Shannon Dorsey, who agreed to allow Zendejas-Pelta to return to work with her newborn daughter.
This nontraditional approach has allowed Zendejas-Pelta to resume her professional duties sooner in managing the spa with the peace of mind in knowing that she can work while continuing to breastfeed and bond with her daughter. "Coming from a corporate environment where I worked long hours for M•A•C Cosmetics, I never imagined in a million years that people like Shannon even existed anymore," says Zendejas-Pelta. "I was not expecting the amount of help and support she is providing. Shannon is flexible with my hours and accommodates situations that come up on the fly regarding my newborn, as well as my two and a half year old son. I am provided with something more valuable than a paycheck, as I can take time to connect with and care for my children."
AFAB is among more than 180 organizations nationwide and beyond that advocate babies in the workplace. As noted by the nonprofit organization Babies in the Workplace, there are to date 2,130 babies who have successfully attended work with their parents. Babies-at-Work programs offer numerous benefits for both the employer and employee, such as earlier return to work following childbirth, improved employee loyalty/retention and increased teamwork and cooperation.
