Abington Art Center Announces 2012 Summer Concerts at the Manor
This July and August, join us on Thursday evenings at 7pm for Concerts at the Manor co-hosted by Abington Art Center and Abington Township Parks & Recreation.
- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) May 22, 2012 - Each July and August, Abington Art Center and Abington Township Parks & Recreation co-host a summer concert series on the lawn of its historic home, Alverthorpe Manor. The 2012 concert series is sponsored by PECO and is sure to be a hit this year with dancing, kids activities, fresh popcorn, cool drinks, and concessions from Trolley Car Diner. The Thursday evening concerts from Abington Art Center's Susquehanna Bank Stage are rain or shine and a $5 donation is requested unless otherwise noted.
2012 Summer Concerts at the Manor Lineup:
July 5 - The Large Flowerheads (7-9pm)
Back by popular demand, The Large Flowerheads bring the music of the 60s and 70s to life. From Motown to American Pop to Psychedelic Rock, there will be something for every flower-child-at-heart to enjoy.
July 12 - Commonwealth Classic Theater Presents Our Town by Thornton Wilder (7-9pm)
Commonwealth Classic Theater brings you the Pulitzer Prize winning, Our Town by Thornton Wilder. Our Town offers a humorous yet sharp glimpse into the lives of the inhabitants of a small American community. Come sprawl out under the stars and be reminded of a universal truth -- that the most precious moment in life is the present moment.
July 19 - The Fleeting Ends (7-9pm)
The Fleeting Ends is a Philly-based pop rock band with influences spanning from XTC and the Cars to the Pixies and Blur. Having performed at SXSW, Folk Fest, the Kimmel Center, and on NBC 10's 10! Show, this is a performance you won't want to miss.
July 26 - Alec Gross (7-9pm)
NY-based musician, Alec Gross, offers fresh, bold, and hauntingly beautiful soundscapes combining Americana, Alt. Country, and R&B. Alec's soaring but vulnerable tenor has been described as 'perfectly suited to the times.'
August 2 - Kid Fest (5:30-9pm)
Join us for an event featuring hands-on workshops and exhibits, food, games, and live music all tailored to kids. Musical guests, The Plants, are a WXPN Kids Corner favorite and will inspire imagination and creativity with eclectic lighthearted tunes.
August 9 - Barleyjuice (7-9pm)
Barleyjuice is one of the most beloved celtic rock bands known for their whiskey-soaked vocals. This performance by musicians, Kyf Brewer, Keith "Swanny" Swanson, Shelley Weiss, Eric Worthington, and Gregor Schroeder, is a benefit concert for Abington Art Center's artistic and educational programs. Tickets will be $10 at the door and a rain date is set for August 23.
Concerts at the Manor is made possible through support from Susquehanna Bank, Visiting Angels of Jenkintown, Milkboy the Studio, Glanzmann Suburu, Pediatric Care Group, P.C., and Trolley Car Diner.
