  • (1888PressRelease) August 03, 2012 - Singapore - A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (IME), has signed a research collaboration agreement with Delta Networks, Inc. (Delta), a global leader in power, thermal management solutions and networking products, to develop a metamaterial (MTM) antenna for wireless application that offers improvements in performance with reduced power and cost.

    2. IME researchers will take advantage of the unique properties of meta-materials to develop a novel antenna which offers improvements in gain and radiation efficiency, and reduction in power consumption and fabrication costs, while meeting demanding requirements for small form factors at the same time. The collaboration will leverage IME's expertise to develop design techniques that are compatible with next generation wireless technology for high performance networking products, handheld devices and explore new wireless applications in fields such as medical and automotive.

    3. "This collaboration with Delta is of strategic importance to our research and development in advanced electronics," commented Professor Dim-Lee Kwong, Executive Director of IME. "The synergy of Delta's expertise and our engineering and scientific capabilities will result in novel technology that enables Delta to move into new markets more rapidly."

    4. "The proliferation of new Internet-based applications is pushing the need for networking products that deliver faster speeds over larger areas with greater reliability," said Victor Cheng, Chairman of Delta Networks, Inc. "Leveraging IME's exceptional research strength will enable us to develop innovative solutions to meet the increasing demands of performance in antenna technology."
