A Musical Based on the Camp Classic Showgirls comes to Portland
Showgirls the Musical Arrives November 22, 2014 at the Hollywood Theatre.
- Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2014 - A Touch Too Much Productions and the Hollywood Theatre are thrilled to present the Portland debut of the Paul Verhoeven cult classic, Showgirls the Musical, a two-hour musical spectacular on Saturday, November 22, 2014 for one night only.
Based on the "so-bad it's good" film, this music-filled portrait tells the story of Nomi Malone, played by star of Zompocalypse: Dead End, Kristin Barrett, a dancer who hitch-hikes her way to Las Vegas to make it big dancing as a showgirl. Her journey to the top doesn't come before pushing Cristal Connors, played by Jaime Langton, of hit TV show Portlandia, down a flight of stairs to take her diamond encrusted feather headdress.
The historic landmark theatre will be transformed into a seedy Vegas strip-club, the showroom of the famous late Stardust Casino and resort, and of course, the elaborate pool in which Nomi and Zack consummate their love ever-so famously.
"We are excited to bring this show to Portland in partnership with the Hollywood Theatre," says John-Ryan Griggs, creative director for Showgirls the Musical. "It is an extraordinary experience that will leave people with a sense of astonishment after they see how many thongs and fierce nails are thrown around in just 2 hours. Thinking outside of our box and taking advantage of the theatre space was necessary in order to bring this amazing event to the Portland community-giving everyone a night they won't soon forget."
The drama-filled show made its stage debut in Chicago during the fall of 2012. Salivating fanatics of the film-many of whom helped fund the project via Kickstarter-helped spread the word resulting in a sell-out show two nights in a row. After a successful run in the Windy City, producer and creative director, John-Ryan Griggs, moved the show to Portland where it has been recast with local talent and amplified to better fit the Hollywood Theatre.
Showgirls the Musical features, John Branch, Josh Edward, and Daniel and Daniel Timothy Treacy each making their Hollywood Theatre Debut. The creative team includes John-Ryan Griggs, Chad D. Comer and assistant producer, Meghann Trause.
This production is recommended for high school and older audiences.
