This story is a rare one in my collections. It describes the bonds we grew with people foreign to us, yet kept sharing our moments with them until the very end. Yes, in short, it describes how our own family bonds got strengthened where we stayed for six whole months near the Mediterranean Sea.

The book goes on to describe how the author’s Dad’s job gets transferred to a place near the Mediterranean Sea where he is unable to send his children to school because of unfavorable circumstances. He, therefore, resigns from his job so that his unhappy children including the author cheer up. They are only going to stay for six months near the sea but during this time a lot of interesting things are going to follow.
The author and her sisters start to become close to Russian children in the colony who, in turn, start to love them. They play together with dolls, kitchen sets and make stuff out of clay. They play games and sing together. Gradually, the three sisters learn to communicate with the children in broken Russian words. They get invited to their birthday parties and swim together in the sea (after learning to swim of course!). They watch Russian films in the cinema theater and participate in cultural programs in the auditorium. The author’s entire family get entwined with the Russian families until it is time for the author’s family to leave and bid farewell.
