60 Cable MSOS Now Using CMC'S HITS Quantum Service to Expand Their HD Programming Lineups
The HITS Quantum Platform Now Available To More Than 20 Million Digital Subscribers. Recent Additions Expand HITS Quantum Programming to More Than 285 Channels.
- Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) August 11, 2010 - Approximately 60 cable MSOs (multiple system operators) are using HD channels available through the HITS Quantum platform of linear digital video services, the Comcast Media Center (CMC) announced today.
The HITS Quantum platform is now available to over 2,000 cable system headends and more than 20 million digital subscribers across the U.S. The CMC also announced the addition of FX (East and West Coast feeds), FX HD, HorseRacing TV™ (HRTV), SPEED and SPEED HD to the HITS Quantum programming lineups, which now encompass more than 285 channels of digital video and audio services.
The HITS Quantum portfolio is designed to provide fast, efficient and economical solutions for cable systems that want to reclaim analog bandwidth and launch a highly competitive lineup of advanced services for generating additional revenues," said Gary Traver, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for Comcast Media Center. "By providing centralized management for many of the country's popular HD and SD channels, as well as a wide range of special interest programming, HITS Quantum allows cable system operators to take advantage of a cost-effective alternative for managing their linear channel lineups.
HITS Quantum's HD lineup currently features 21 HDTV channels using advanced MPEG-2 compression technology that allows cable system operators to optimize bandwidth while maintaining a competitive quality of experience (QoE) for their customers.
HITS Quantum's SD service offers feeds for nearly 70 widely carried basic and expanded basic channels. By converting more of their analog channels to standard-definition or high-definition digital formats, cable operators can reclaim bandwidth for offering additional advanced video and broadband services in order to improve their competitive position and increase their revenue generation opportunities.
HITS Quantum's Classic service features over 194 digital video and audio services that cable systems may use for expanding the scope of sports, multi-cultural and other special interest channels available to their customers. All of the channels available via HITS Quantum as well as VOD programming available via HITS On Demand, may be received with one "triple-feed" antenna. The full list of programming available via HITS Quantum may be found at http://www.comcastmediacenter.com/hits-quantum/programming-lineup.asp.
The all-digital platform, which supports both 64 QAM and 256 QAM digital modulation schemes, features secured authorization, optimized DPI triggers for the insertion of ads, and consistent, high-quality video and audio, also provides television networks with greater potential for additional penetration on HITS Quantum's cable system affiliates.
HITS Quantum affiliates may outsource set-top box management using the National Authorization Service (NAS) or the HITS QuickTake Plus digital cable headend solutions managed by the CMC. The NAS platform has been enhanced to support the wide range of set top boxes available today as well as emerging home premises devices, including digital-to-analog adapters (DTAs) and consumer electronics that operate on the tru2way™ platform. HITS QuickTake Plus is a cost-effective solution designed for delivering digital video services over analog cable systems serving smaller markets at a fraction of the costs of a traditional headend management system.
Beginning with the launch of HITS™ in 1996, the Comcast Media Center (CMC) has provided cost-effective solutions for offering advanced video and broadband services to cable and other multichannel households. In addition to HITS Quantum and HITS QuickTake, CMC's suite of HITS services include HITS On Demand , which includes VOD in a Box™, a managed video on demand service jointly offered with ARRIS Group that can deliver up to 3,300 hours of HD and standard definition VOD content per month, as well as the opportunity to receive content from the wider spectrum of content sources available via the CMC's Content Services solution.
Additional HITS™ services include HITS AxIS, a suite of services that support the development and delivery of iTV applications that use the current Enhanced Television-Binary Interchange Format (ETV EBIF) platform as well as the emerging tru2way™ platform, and HITS Broadband, a carrier-class IP connectivity service.
