Registration is now open and pre-registration is highly encouraged for the 5K Run/Walk and the One-Mile Holton Hustle! Participants can register online at www.linwoodholtonpta.com or www.Raceit.com (use keyword Holton). All ages are welcome to participate in the 5k Run/Walk, but no pets, skateboards, rollerblades/skates, scooters, or bicycles are allowed on the course. The One-Mile Holton Hustle is for youth in VPI through 8th grade. Pre-registration costs are $17 for an individual for the 5k and $20 for an individual on race day. Family registration is $45. The One-Mile Holton Hustle is $5. Participants have the opportunity this year to Run/Walk-For-Free. Participants may also create a unique online fundraising page through Raceit.com to help fundraise their registration cost or use the pledge forms that are on the reverse side of the registration form. Registration forms, pledge forms, and all other event information can be found on www.linwoodholtonpta.com. Registration forms and checks, made out to Holton PTA, can be mailed to Linwood Holton Elementary School, Attn: Holton PTA 5k, 1600 W. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227. A portion of the entry fee is deductible as a charitable contribution for federal income tax purposes to the maximum extent allowed by law.

Post-race refreshments will be provided for the runners and walkers. Registration packages must be picked up two days prior to race day. T-shirts will be guaranteed to all of the participants who pre-register before February 6, 2012. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners as well as to the top male and female Richmond Public School teacher. Other prizes will be available for top fundraiser and as door prizes, raffles, and from games.

Another exciting component of the 5K Run/Walk is the Family Festival. "We are bringing back the family festival portion of the 5K, but in a fun, educational, and healthy way," says Kantrese Smith, Holton 5k Festival Event Chair. "The 5K and Family Festival both promote health and physical fitness in our students and participants from the surrounding communities."

The featured band this year, The Diggity Dudes, will be sure to get the crowd moving! By incorporating RPS Standards of Learning, life lessons, and citizenship through their music, The Diggity Dudes will provide fun and enjoyment for the entire family. Proceeds from the Family Festival will help the Holton PTA continue to provide instrumental support to the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Linwood Holton Elementary School.

Linwood Holton Elementary School and its PTA are a success story among Richmond Public Schools. The partnership is one that fully supports our own but encourages partnerships with area PTAs as well. An example of that can be seen through the 5K School Share Program. The Holton PTA has invited all RPS PTAs to participate in this event and any school that has a minimum of 10 students to participate in Holton's 5k run/walk or one-mile run, will receive a donation from the Linwood Holton PTA of 50% of the school's total registration costs.

For more information on this event, please contact the Holton PTA 5k Committee at holtonpta5k ( @ ) gmail dot com or visit: www.linwoodholtonpta.com.
