500,000 Hours and Counting--Hood Tech's UAV Cameras Keep Smashing Records
Hood Tech imaging systems have flown more than 500,000 hours, and apparently recently help set a single Navy record for UAV use during a single deployment.
- (1888PressRelease) November 24, 2011 - In an article in the Mayport Mirror, Lt. J. G. Darcy Herberick (http://jacksonville.com/military/mayport-mirror/2011-08-17/story/roosevelt-s-uav-logs-1k-flight-hours) emphasizes the reliability and ruggedness of the imaging systems manufactured by Hood Tech Corp, Vision Inc and the UAVs on which they fly. Lt. Herberick writes, "The embarked (UAV) Detachment (Det) on board guided missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) racked up more than 1,000 flight hours on July 29. This was accomplished (with) more than 112 sorties in 89 days since leaving the Mayport basin." The Roosevelt is described as an "independent destroyer supporting maritime security operations (MSO) in the U.S. Navy's 5th and 6th Fleet Areas of Responsibility." The UAV payloads described in the article are Hood Tech's electro optical (EO) and infrared (IR) imaging systems (http://www.alticamvision.com/products.html).
The new sorties and hours of flight time add to the already impressive totals achieved by Hood Tech imaging systems; more than 500,000 combat hours and approximately 57,000 sorties to date. "… (D)ue to the ship being underway more than 100 days straight at sea, (the Roosevelt detachment) is well on track for breaking flight time records of any previous…sea-based deployment and setting the standard for sea-based …UAV longevity on station."
Hood Tech Corp, Vision Inc (Hood Tech) designs and manufactures imaging and video processing systems for both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), boats, land vehicles, and stationary mounts. The reliability and utility of Hood Tech's daylight and thermal imaging products has been demonstrated over more than 500,000 hours of operations in a variety of temperatures, humidity, dust, smoke, haze, and other environmental factors (http://www.alticamvision.com).
Hood Tech was founded by Dr. Andy von Flotow in Hood River, Oregon in 1993. In addition to stabilized imaging systems, Hood Tech develops, tests, and manufactures launch and retrieval systems for a variety of UAVs and monitors blade vibrations in industrial turbines and jet engines, a diagnostic method for predicting possible future failures (www.hoodtech.com).
