4th Annual "Thing in the Spring" Weekend Offers Live Concerts, a Free Art Fair, and an Opportunity to Dine with Livestock
Information on the lineup of artists and events that will be taking place at the 4th annual "Thing in the Spring" weekend, three days of art and music in downtown Peterborough, NH. This year's event will occur on May 13, 14, and 15 and feature live concerts, *broke: the affordable arts fair, and Lunch with the Lambs.
- Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) April 22, 2011 - Tickets went on sale last week for the 4th annual Thing in the Spring weekend, three days of art and music in downtown Peterborough, New Hampshire. This year's event occurs on May 13th, 14th and 15th, and includes local and national music acts, *broke: the affordable arts fair, and Lunch with the Lambs, a chance to picnic beneath a tent surrounded by live music and live lambs.
"We strive to bring renowned independent groups into intimate venues, in combinations that one would be hard pressed to find together even in a major metropolitan area." reads the event's website thethinginthespring.com. "We think you will appreciate what the festival does for the communities it represents." This year's concerts feature a broad range of musical styles, and include critically acclaimed performers such as Thurston Moore & Byron Coley, J Mascis, Dredd Foole, Kayo Dot, and Giraffes? Giraffes!. The three main concerts will be held at the Peterborough Historical Society, the first of which kicks off the festival on the evening of Friday May 13th, with additional performances at Harlow's Pub, Putnam Park, and the roof of the Toadstool Bookshop, throughout the weekend.
On Saturday May 14 the day's activities include *broke: the affordable arts fair, a multidisciplinary arts event that is free for the public to attend. *broke's philosophy is: art is for everybody, so all 40 vendors commit to presenting at least 75% of their wares for less than $50. This event will be taking place in the Peterborough Congregational Church from 10am until 4pm, and attendees can expect to see locally made ceramics, drawings, paintings, jewelry and apparel. To add to the excitement, there will also be a kissing booth, and barbeque sandwiches for sale.
May 15th starts leisurely with Lunch with the Lambs, a fundraiser co-sponsored by Slow Food Monadnock and Sunnyfield farm. A la Carte menu items include choice of Organic Sunnyfield sliced ham, roast beef, or egg salad sandwich; local chips and lemonade; fruit; and homemade desserts donated by Roy's Market, Orchard Hill Breadworks, and Slow Food Monadnock members. Proceeds go to benefit Sunnyfield Farm, and their effort to obtain a new Maremma Sheepdog. Lunch starts at 1pm, and includes musical performances by Out like Lambs & Wooden Dinosaur. There will also be a photographer offering pictures with the animals, and an opportunity to feed the lambs.
Other weekend activities include Empty Bowls fundraiser at Club Cannon; a screening of the movie "The Family Jams" at the Peterborough Library; and Macdowell Fellow and Poet Andrea Cohen at the Toadstool Bookshop. The Thing in the Spring was created by the Glass Museum, which make and release limited hand-printed records, create prints and show posters, tee shirts, and other various handmade ephemera.
