From the outside, the EAP717's pearl white color, built-in antennas, and compact size allows it to be inconspicuously added to any indoor environment. Organizations have the choice of mounting the EAP717 on vertical surfaces such as walls, or in the ceiling with 4ipnet's patented ceiling mount kit. The fire-retardant plastic exterior prevents the AP from being a fire hazard when placed inside ceiling areas. However, the EAP717's housing and external qualities are not its only desirable characteristics.
First, as a selectable dual-band access point, the EAP717 can operate in either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency band, providing organizations flexibility in channel selection in order to reduce interference. Second, the AP is 802.3af PoE compliant and does not need to be powered by traditional power sources, making it ideal in locations where cabling is difficult. Finally, the RJ-11 telephone line pass through and additional Ethernet LAN ports allows the AP to be deployed without obstructing previously connected telephones or IP-based devices.
On the performance side, the EAP717 supports up to 300 Mbps data rate and includes wireless QoS for prioritizing traffic, ensuring uninterrupted video and audio streaming for a wire-like performance.
