41-year Old Father With Aggressive Blood Cancer In Search For Lifesaving Stem Cell Donor
Urgent appeal to join the marrow registry on March 19 at Jewish Education Center of South Florida.
- (1888PressRelease) March 15, 2023 - Murray Foltyn, a 41-year-old husband and father of three young children, is battling blood cancer and is in urgent need of a stem cell transplant. An international search is underway to find him a genetic match.
Gift of Life Marrow Registry is hosting a donor recruitment drive for him on Sunday, March 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Jewish Education Center of South Florida, 500 NE Spanish River Blvd., Suite 15, Boca Raton, FL 33431.
Foltyn is diagnosed with myelofibrosis and he does not have a matching donor in his family or in the worldwide marrow registry. He is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent and his best chance of finding a match is with someone of similar ancestry. His known genetic heritage is from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Russia and the United Kingdom.
To join the Gift of Life registry, donors simply swab the inside of their cheeks and complete a registration questionnaire. 18 to 35-year-olds who are in good health (the ideal demographic for successful transplants) are especially urged to attend and sign up. Those who join become part of a global network of donors, and may be called for any patient they match worldwide, including Murray.
Those unable to attend in person can request a swab kit to be delivered at home by visiting giftoflife.org/Murray. To hold a donor recruitment event and help find Murray’s match, please email Traci Ackerman at tackerman ( @ ) giftoflife dot org dot
You may also support Murray by donating to his “Donor Circle” campaign to help pay for the processing of swab kits. Every contribution helps Gift of Life add new donors to the registry and goes directly toward testing kits in order to find matches for patients in need.
