3rd Annual Chef's Showcase Could Mean Christmas in June for Clearwater Community Volunteers
Julia Child's famous phrase "People who love to eat are always the best people" is being put to the test at the 3rd Annual Chefs Showcase at the Church of Scientology's Fort Harrison, raising funds for a new Winter Wonderland.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2015 - Winter is still months away, but Tampa Bay Magazine and the Fort Harrison are teaming up to raise money for Clearwater Community Volunteers' Winter Wonderland on Sunday, June 14th.
The event is the 3rd Annual Chefs' Showcase, featuring a five-course plated meal with wine pairings - each course created by a different chef, accomplished in the culinary arts. This year's theme is "Street Food on White Tablecloths."
The event begins with a reception on the 10th Floor Terrace at 6, and dinner will start at 6:30 in the Fort Harrison's Crystal Ballroom. Tickets are $100 per person with all proceeds going to the Clearwater Community Volunteers (CCV).
CCV is most known for its production of Winter Wonderland, which they have done for the past 22 years. Winter Wonderland is a nearly 3-week Holiday festival in downtown Clearwater. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and toys, which are then distributed to children and families in Pinellas County.
Clearwater. Participating chefs include: Chef Sean Ragan - Chef de Cuisine at the Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach; Chef Viet Vo of the Art Institute of Tampa and Chef William Brown - founder of William Dean Chocolates. Chef Zoltan Vajna, the Executive Chef at the Fort Harrison, is overseeing the menu and coordinating the chefs.
"This year we wanted to do something different," said Chef Zoltan. "We wanted to have a little fun with the food, so we are doing versions of street food if you found them at a white tablecloth restaurant."
The Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization is sponsoring the dinner.
"The Fort Harrison is known as our international religious retreat," said Pat Harney, the spokesperson for the Church, "and our chefs are tops. It is exciting to work with other masters of the culinary arts to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience, while raising money for a good cause."
Pam Ryan Anderson, the Executive Director of the Clearwater Community Volunteers, says that the event will help provide funds for the construction of new portable facilities for Winter Wonland. The group also runs programs throughout the year to help other non-profits fulfill their mission.
"I volunteer my time to head the CCV because I believe that something can be done to help children - to keep them fed, literate and safe. Through Winter Wonderland and the annual Coachman Park Easter Egg Hunt, we can do this" said Anderson. "Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard said that 'The whole future of the race depends upon its attitude toward children.' There are children in need throughout this area, and through CCV, we can hopefully help make our collective futures brighter."
Last year's event raised $7,500 for CCV, and organizers hope to increase this to $10,000 this year.
