3D technologies R&D has launched the first self-service building guide software
3D Wayfinder is a web-based service for creating building guides for large public buildings. The building guide is based on a 3D model of a building and it can be used on touch-screen displays or on websites.
- (1888PressRelease) November 15, 2011 - Interactive kiosks and touch-screen displays are becoming cheaper and more popular than ever. It is more expensive to print building maps, than to use digital guide, especially when tenants are often changing.
3D Wayfinder shows the route from the kiosk to the destination by visualizing it in 3D. The application has all the basic building directory functionality: everything can be managed through 3D Wayfinder website, including tenants, elevators, toilets, ATM-s etc. Directory can be browsed by topics, keywords or simple search.
So far the building guide solutions are mainly custom-made software, which makes it expensive to create and maintain. Creating a 3D Wayfinder application for a specific building is quick and easy. After uploading the 3D model of the building, it can be easily configured by the user. 3D Wayfinder supports most of the common 3D model formats: obj, 3ds, fbx, dae.
3D Wayfinder also offers an advertisement functionality for the building manager. All tenants can add simple adverts to the directory and to their locations. Messages shown in 3D are attractive and more ads can catch the users eye at the same time. All advertisements are shown based on search context and location of the kiosk with 3D Wayfinder. Based on ROI-calculations for average shopping center, 3D Wayfinder application may earn back the investment made to the kiosk-hardware as quickly as three months.
3D Technologies R&D has announced that there will be support for mobile phones soon.
