  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) January 16, 2017 - The 34th Annual Black Music and Civil Rights Movement Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Hall, 2501 Flora St., Dallas, Texas, and will be narrated by actor and activist Malik Yoba and feature artists B.SladeTM, Bilal and Earnest Pugh.

    The three-time Emmy Award nominated concert also features the 250-voice MLK Concert Choir, consisting of Dallas-Fort Worth members and soloists.

    In tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on this 24th anniversary of his national holiday, the concert is a theatrical performance that features diverse music that expresses the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement.

    "Dr. King's message of fighting for your civil rights against all odds is just as relevant today as it was in the 1960s," said Curtis King, Founder and President of The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, Inc. "The youth of the Black Lives Matters Movement are standing up for their rights, just like the young members of the Southern Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Race, economic power and civil rights are again in the forefront of America's conversation.

    "Next week, America transitions from President Obama, the first African American president, to President-Elect Donald Trump," said King, who conceived, scripted, produced and will direct the concert. "The country is trying to figure out how to respond to a president who is unconventional, following a divisive campaign.

    Mr. Yoba, the three-time NAACP Image Award Winner is probably best known for his roles as an actor in the 1993 Disney classic, Cool Runnings, and the hit Fox television series Empire and New York Undercover. He is also an actor, writer, director, producer, musician, activist, educator, inspirational speaker, entrepreneur and author.

    B.Slade TM is an independent singer, songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist, rapper, dancer, producer, and activist from San Diego, California. He has released several hundred songs on over 30 albums over a span of 20 years, while producing several others for both gospel and secular artists. He has won seven Stellar Awards, a GMA Award, and received three Grammy nominations.

    Philadelphia native Bilal is classically trained and capable of singing opera in seven languages. In 2010, he released, Airtight's Revenge, on the Plug Research label. Its "Little One" was nominated for a 2011 Grammy in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category. In February 2013, Bilal released A Love Surreal on eOne.

    Mr. Pugh is a gospel artist who was nominated for a Dove and Stellar Award. His latest CD "The W.I.N. (Worship in Nassau) Experience" debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart and has already produced two big chart hits with the soaring ballad "More of You" and the urban flavored collaboration with J. Moss, "I Believe You Most." Mr. Pugh has formed his own label, EPM Music Group label.
